Ok, We really ahve nothing much to report here at the moment! Spending the day doing laundry and internet things, so we will update as soon as something exciting happens!

We left Mexico yesterday and 12 hours, a 1st class bus, a taxi, a tuktuk and 5 chicken buses later we arrived at our destination - Panajachel on the shores of Lake Atilan in Guatemala.
Mexico was too expensive on our budget and Belize prices from what we heard from other travellers were more than the USA, so we cut our losses and headed into Guatemala - a fair bit cheaper.

************************UPDATE****************************** ******

Panajachel is known locally as Gringotenango! And for good reason. The whole town is geared towards tourists, there are numerous stalls that line the main street selling clothes, jewelerey, rugs etc etc! Food stall are here in abundance too, as well as cafes and restaurants serving everything from the local tortilla and refried beans to toast and jam and hamburgers. Yesterday we had a great day just chilling out, our hostel is really nice and we managed to bag a room with a private bathroom - after a little negotiation of course!

Today we walked through the town and down to the lake front. We were astounded by the beautiful views across the lake to the volcanoes (however we did both agree that even though it is different, it is not as stunning as Queenstown) we spent awhile wandering along the front, stopping to take photographs and sit gazing out to the lake - oh we also stopped at a little stall and enjoyed a cold beer too!

As we walked back into town along the busy road, dodging tuktuks, buses, bikes and cars, we stopped browsing at the various stalls - we did not buy a thing yet though!

Tommorow we are heading on a couple more chicken buses through the mountains to the colonial city of Antigua - apparantley it is only a couple of hours! LOL

Hugs
