Wow!! Melaka is a stunning city....

Kuala Lumpur was great, it was a big city and we had a great time there, there was a fair bit to see and do, including Merdeka Square, The Old Railway station and the beautiful mosques. We did finally get up the Petronas Towers too, that was pretty amazing, even though the skywalk that you can visit isnt as high as other buildings/towers it has a very special feeling being up there, the views were good and the fact that you can actually look the towers up and down when you are somwhere in the middle is cool too!

We said goodbye to Matts mum and dad yesterday, we left to Melaka and they were flying back to the UK.....2 weeks flew by, it was brilliant to see them both and we had a wonderful time.

Puduraya Bus station was tame, we expected it to be really busy as it was when we arrived, but it was so easy, a bus was leaving at 1.30pm which was about 15minutes after we got there, so we were able to get seats on that bus and 2 hours later we pulled into Melaka.

Melaka has the usual modern city part, but its the old quarter which is spectacular, the buidlings are a total mix, at some point in history the Portugeuse, Dutch and Brits all took charge of this city, so as you can imagine the influences left behind along with a fantastic blend of architecture is brilliant. Today we ploughed around the city on foot in the humid heat to see all that it has to offer. To be honest the 2 nights we have here is enough, we saw today what we came to see, the stunning Christchurch which is typical Dutch style, The Townhall, the townsquare is a total feast for the eyes in itself. We climbed up the hill behind the town hall to see the ruins of St Pauls Church, and trundeled back down to visit St Xaviers Church, there was a service in English happening at the time, so we stood at the back for a while and listened in, it was rather strange being in a church....we are so used to temples and mosques!

Last night Matt tryed the Malaysian traditional meal of Laksa...which he really enjoyed -a hot and spicy blend of noodles with coconut milk and spices.....too hot for me I settled with sweet and sour chicken with rice - delicious all the same.

Tommorow we hope to hop onto a bus to our final Asian destination Singapore, where we shall stay until our flight to Perth early next week.

Hugs

Ali n Matt
