Tommorow is our last full day here in Langkawi, then we will take the boat south to the island of Penang - Found out from a local that Langkawi is in fact bigger than Penang which was a suprise as Langkawi is tiny really!

So we have had a busy and exciting few days here, first of all on our first full day we sat and ate the biggest breakfast ever served! Seriously - we were laden with danish pastries, eggs, jams, fruit, cheese and meats...absolutley delicious, once our tummys were filled we nipped to the "very" nice hotel next door to see Matts mum and dad who had just flown in that morning.

After much talking and catching up, a few beers later and a meal in Thai place on the main street we retired to our room.
Next morning we were up again and scoffing our way through the biggest breakfast in the world number 2!! It truly is yummy and theres so much of it we dont actually have to eat until dinner time!

Matts mum and dad hired a jeep whilst here which is just great, we have been spoiled with exploring somewhere in the luxury of an air conditioned vehicle, even though Langkawi is small there is plenty to see, and after a rather shaky start (in the name of a split wheel on the jeep), we headed off around the island to explore, after enjoying a drink and a walk around an inland harbour type place with fake colonial style buildings we were washed out by the monsoon rains, its a shame because the area was stunning and the buildings set against the backdrop of lush green jungle and mountains was beautiful, we drove north to the black sand beach known as Pantai Pasir Hitam.

The beach itself was tiny and quite dirty, but it was a novelty seeing the black sand, we ate a lunch of rice/noodles and chicken in a typical Malay Cafe before heading further East to the beautiful beach of Tanjung Rhu.

Tanjung Rhu has a wide sandy beach, beautiful waters which were quite still when we swam there yesterday, there is just one hotel on this beach so its much cleaner than our beach at Pantai Cenang, and there were not many people laying around there, nearby are the mangroves which people can take boat trips to, we didnt, but we did see the fishing boats and area where you can jump on. We ended the day with a drive to the top of Gunung Raya, the tallest mountain in Langkawi and did manage to see through the somewhat overgrown foilage some nice views across the island.

Today we set off to a beach just the otherside of the airport Pantai Kok, it was a nice expanse of sand, quite wide with just a few locals on it, then we headed just a little further to the Oriental Village, which is a purpose built shopping area, and home to the Langkawi Cable Car.
I have to say, my fear of heights is better, but I still cant help sqalking at every little noise and movement the cable car made! The views from up there were absolutley amazing though, the turquiose seas, white sands, islets scattered around the coastline and lush green pinnacles and jungle were magnificent, we visited the viewpoints and took a stack of photos before exploring the swing bridge which struts itself high across the treetops of the jungle below. A storm was brewing in the distance and we made it back down just in time for some more of the rains. We headed around to Datai, you cant really see much there as the huge hotel takes up the area but there were plenty of monkeys along the road for us to spend some time snapping and awing at!

Durian Perangin was another of our sights for the day, a waterfall on the main road to Kuah, its was nice, and there were lots of locals swimming and bbqing there, then we headed to Kuah to see the beautiful Masjid Al Hana - a mosque one of many on the island.
So as you can tell its been an action packed few days compared to our lounging around on the Thai Islands! Penang here we come!

Hugs
