So, since we last posted we have been spending time in the stunning Sri Lankan countryside, high up in the mountains.
We had a great time in Kandy - which is the main city in this area, went out and visited the Pinnewala Elephant orphanage - which was great...although they have turned it into bit more of a tourist attraction than we imagined it would be! However, I did hand feed a baby elephant his bottle of milk! It was just soooo cute!
Our day in Pinnewala was fun, we watched the elephants bathe in the nearby river too, they are very different to the African elephants that we saw, much smaller ears, longer tails, different feet. When we left the orphange we had 2 options, option 1 being to take a tuk tuk or bus to the end of the road and then try and flag down a bus back to Kandy, option 2 was walk to a village called Rambukkana, that was 2kms away and catch a train. We took the cheaper option and walked 2kms to the train station only to find out that there was no train for hours, so in the end being stingy actually cost us more money, as we jumped on a bus to Kegalle, and went back down the road past the orphange where we had just walked from, and jumped on another bus to Kandy from Kegalle.

After we had spent 4 nights in Kandy, staying in a really nice budget hotel high up overlooking the lake and the temple of the tooth, we moved on, and took a 4 hour train journey to Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya is dubbed as Sri Lankas Garden city, and they call it "Little England", we cant think why?! Seriously, its a small town, with absolutly nothing there at all! It actually reminded us of an African town...certainly not an English one! The surrounding area however, was beautiful, terraces of fields and tea plantations. As it is so high up in the mountains there, it was FREEZING at night, and we got use out of our trousers, socks and fleeces!

After 2 nights there we moved on today, still in the mountains, but to a tiny village called Ella...a tad warmer as well as its not as high as Nuwara Eliya was.
So far so good, there are some great walks to do in this area waterfalls and the like.

Thats all for now.........

Love Hugs
