From Alice's Diary,
"THURSDAY – SOUTHEND ON SEA – 25.6.09 Up at 5, shower and pack up as the taxi is coming at 6am to take us to the station. We had to catch the train back to Brussel and then transfer to the Eurostar to take us to England through the tunnel. We are getting absolutely fantastic because we did all that without getting lost or getting off at the wrong station. The train was an experience, we got breakfast on the train it was a bit like being on a plane. Even managed to have a wine after breakfast. Well it is after 5pm in Australia. After changing stations and trains in London (this did include a ride in a taxi) we arrived at Jeanie's place in Southend on Sea and Trish came running out of the house, so excited to see us and Jeanie was waiting inside. Her hip is not to good so is a bit slow getting around. It is so nice to sit in her kitchen, not having to worry about what we look like. It is a bit like being at home. We spend the day talking and laughing and I did do some washing because Mac had no singlets and T shirts left so now we are up to date again with clean clothes. Watched some telly and bedtime at 11pm. We were very tired I suppose we did start the day very early. It is lovely to be here.

FRIDAY – SOUTHEND ON SEA – 26.6.09

Jeanie was already up when I got downstairs to make my cup of tea. It is just like being at home and I am really enjoying it. Mac was still sleeping so it was a good time to get my diary up to date. Had brekky, cleaned up and showered and then Trish and Paul arrived and took us to Southend Pier. This is the longest pier in the world so after we had some fish and chips, because you must have fish and chips in Southend we caught the train to the end of the pier. It is to far for Jeanie to walk and it was great. A lot of people fishing off the end and we had a little walk around. It actually was very peaceful we loved it. Got the train back it takes about 15 minutes and it just rattles along. Jeanie had messaged Trish to come and pick us up so we just sat and waited. Paul and Trish had picked George up from school and he was very exited to see us. Well and truly ready for a wine and they stayed for a while before going home. We are really enjoying their company it has been fun. Nice quiet evening watched some telly and went to bed. Tomorrow is another day.

SATURDAY – SOUTHEND ON SEA – 27.6.09

It was a nice slow easy morning. Plenty of time to have breakfast as Mark wasn’t coming until 11am to pick us up to go for a drive to see different things. Mark is Jeanie eldest son and we haven’t met him before although have exchanged emails with him. Mac and I went for a walk to the grog shop because in the afternoon we are going to Paul and Trish’s place for a bar-b-q and didn’t want to go empty handed. As the morning went on there were a few phone calls from Mark who was having all sorts of dramas and at 1.30pm it was decided that Paul would come and pick us up to go to Trish’s. It was a great afternoon. Met all of Trish’s children and boyfriends/partners and Mark did turn up as well very sorry about everything. It didn’t matter because we had a great morning with Jean anyway. The food was unreal, Paul cooked all sorts of things, chicken, lamb, pork sausages all sorts of salads. We just sat all afternoon talking and eating and before we knew it we had to go back to Jean’s house to pack up. We only had 15 minutes before Paul and Trish got there to pick us up at 7.45pm and it was time to say goodbye. We had such a good time with Jean that the time just went to fast. Paul and Trish drove us to Harwich to our Ferry and that only took us 1hour and 30 minutes."
