From Alice's Diary
"No trouble this morning, packed up, had breakfast and off to the station and arrived there one hour ahead of time which meant we could get on a earlier train as we had an open ticket. Arrived in Brussel and change trains without any trouble at all and arrived in Brugge about 3 pm. Our hotel is very nice (thanks to Dan for his recommendation) and just a few metres from the town square so we don't have to walk very far to be amongst it all. Had a drink and a snack at one of the many café’s which are taking up 2 sides of the square it was too late to have lunch. Went for a big walk just to find our way and to see the town and it is very beautiful. The tower in front of our hotel plays the bells every 15 minutes really nice. About 8 we decided to have some dinner, Mac had an omelet and chips and I had lasagne, glass of wine and a beer and that came to 42 Euro I can’t believe how much the food costs. Since we left the boat we have spend quite an amount of money mainly on food and drink. Home to the hotel and went to bed as we were both very tired.

WEDNESDAY – BRUGGE – 24.6.09
Had a nice breakfast at the hotel and then took off. We headed off first to the canal cruises. They are little boats and the skipper had to make sure the boat was balanced properly before we sailed off. It was very different to Amsterdam, the canals are much smaller and the bridges very low but it was so pretty, we just loved it and a beautiful day into the bargain. We have been so lucky with our weather. It hasn’t always been hot but I think all in all we have had 3 days of rain and even then it didn’t stop us from doing something. After that we decided to go for a 1 kilometre walk to find the windmill that is still working, grinding wheat etc. When we got there it had big fence around it and obviously they are doing it up and certainly not working. Well it was a nice walk and we didn’t get lost but by the time we walked back we went back to the hotel a little tired. Mac sat down to do his photo’s and I found a little bistro in the courtyard of the hotel and sat and had a wine. Mac found me after a while and we had lunch there. Rack of lamb with vegies oh it was so nice and of course a bottle of wine. I must have been good because after walking around a little more I went back to the hotel and slept for two hours. Later that night had chips with mayonnaise all over it. Yum, yum. Visit to Brugge is over and we are very glad we came here. What a beautiful place. Tomorrow we are off to visit our friends at Southend on Sea in England.
