From Alice's Diary
"Wow!!! What a long and busy day. At 8.30am we left the ship to go by bus to Heidelberg which took about one hour and 30 minutes. Our guide was on the bus with us and described the scenery as we drove. We saw the castle where Queen Victoria's mother had lived but could only take photo’s as the bus couldn’t stop. In Heidelberg we drove straight up to the ruins of a very famous castle and spent quite some time there. The views over Heidelberg were spectacular and after that drove back down the mountain into Heidelberg. A walking tour which ended about 12.30 and then we found a place to sit down and have some lunch. The little street reminded us a little of Hardware Lane in Melbourne, the weather was great and so we sat outside. German sausage, fried potatoes and sourkraut and of course a beer for Mac and a wine for me. Walked around for a while and met the guide at 3 at yet ABC but heard the history of Luther. I’ve decided that people that lived in the middle ages were not nice people and the rich especially the bishops and prince bishops did terrible things. At 3.30 we got back on the bus to be returned to the ship which in the meantime had sailed to a place I can’t spell and the trip took nearly 2 hours. I was very happy to see the ship and the first thing I did was have a glass of wine on deck and a ciggy. Had dinner at 7 and then I laid on the bed and read my book. ................ That was the end of the day and we didn’t take much rocking to go to sleep."
