From Alice's Diary
" I haven't written for a couple of days and I shouldn’t do that because our days are so full that I can’t always remember the details of every day. We left the boat just after lunch and were taken to Nuremberg by bus which took about 30 minutes and went along the Autobahn. The boat continued on and we would meet up again at 6 o’clock. If we had not done that we would have missed out on visiting Nuremberg as we were there at night time. During the morning we had a slide show done by the Captain explaining all about the locks and how they work and also the ship. At this time we are now sailing through the Danube-Maine-Rhine canal which connects the three rivers so that cargo can be shipped all the way from Holland to the Black Sea. We passed the half way mark which is a concrete erection very plain and were presented by the Captain with a certificate that we are now A Grade sailors and he would expect us on deck at 6am to clean the decks. A lot of fun. Arriving at Nuremberg we were met by our guide and proceded on our walking tour through the city. It was very interesting because the history besides being 2000 years old is more recent as it was about the 2nd world war and of course Hitler and the Nazi movement. We definitely got the message that the German people hate the Nazi’s and everything they did during the war. We saw the building which had been build (a copy of the colosseum) but was never finished and so the German people have left it to to ruins because they don’t want anything to do with it. We also saw where Hitler made his speech and the big court buildings where a lot of the Nazi criminals were tried and executed. Climbed all the way to a castle and in the distance saw a castle on top of a mountain and were told that it was Switzerland. Had some free time to walk around but all was very quiet being Sunday and nothing much is open. It was very hot about 30 degrees so quite happy to get back to the boat, have a shower and go down for dinner."
