Since our last blog we left Vancouver to go to miami via NYC. We had our shortest hotel stay ever at 3 and a bit hours in Newark Airport as to my surprise New York airport does not open 24hrs and is dead at 11pm when we landed. We got directed to the hotel board and how to book and stay for our short lay over. when then got our flight the next morning to Miami and boarded our cruise. The first night and full second day were ship sailing days so we made full use of the ship lounging around between meal times. we were very lucky as we got along really well with the other people we shared dinner with each night.
The third day we landed in the caribbean island of Grand Turk. here we booked a bicycle and snorkeling tour of the island. around 3000 people live on the island and our ship and one other ship around the same size landed that day. don't know about the other shop but our ship had over 3000 people on it. this very basic island had a large cruise terminal with a huge bar area called Margaritaville, with it's own wave simulator. the place was huge and by the time we were due to leave there were a lot of drunk burnt people around (thank goodness not ali or Myself) after dinner we watched a show in the theatre on the ship and then a comedian in a lounge.
next day we stopped at the island of Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. this is a private island of the cruise company. here ali did a hourse riding tour but as there was only one horse left i did the bicycle island tour. with the horses ali got to ride the horse through the water. on My tour of the island i got shown alot of the plants and they explained how they made shampoo, houses, dental floss and medicine from the plants. The rest of the day was spent lazing on the beach after finding 2 spare beach lounges and some shade. in the afternoon we also hired a watercycle and paddled out to sea but realized that was to much hard work so went back to shore and our chairs with our books. That night we went to the out door movie on the main deck and saw "Yes Man"
Last full day and we stopped at Nassau in the Bahamas. here we did a snorkling tour were we got taken out to a reef by a large cateraman and snorkled for around an hour. we saw heaps of different fish and also a small stingray. on the sail back to Nassau we got a few rum cocktails. On Nassau after our tour we hit the shops enjoying the fact that the Bahamas is a tax free shopping destination.
our last night and we almost got kicked out of the dinning room as we enjoyed chatting with new dining room friends. After a drink back in our room we headed to the lounge to see a different comedian.
last morning of the criuse and we left the ship and headed to Maimi Beach. After dropping our bags off at our hotel we headed out to go see the beach but unknowingly jumped on the wrong bus and went about 40mins in the wrong direction thinking it was a loop bus and was going to turn around and go the other way. it did eventually so what should have been a 30min ride to south beach turned into a long bus trip. we eventually got there and enjoyed the sights and sounds of south Beach miami. that night we headed to lincoln rd pedestrian mall, a great mix of shops, restaurants and bars and enjoyed dinner (sushimi and teriaki beef with mojitos)
Next morning we woke early and jogged (and walked a lot) from our hotel to Miami beach to grab a coffee and then caught the bus back to hotel to check out and head to the airport ready for our flight to Washington DC!
