Once we dropped mum and dad off we went to pick up our Hippie Camper, which would become our home for the next 6 weeks! The van was tiny! It took us a while to get organised and pack all of our bags into the small space. We got in the van and headed straight back to Noosa. Noosa is the perfect spot for campers as the car parks have showers and toilets. The sunshine council are not yet enforcing 'no camping' so we stayed for free for over a week.

We then started to drive north and were shocked at the state of the Fraser Coast. As mentioned before there had just been a cyclone and several tornadoes. In Noosa we were hit with rain, rain and more rain, the Fraser Coast was hit bad. We drove through Marybourough and was shocked to see fallen trees, wrecked building and unbelievably high water marks. The sea was so murky and brown, we spoke to locals that said normally the water would have been crystal clear.

After driving further up the coast we stopped in Airlie Beach and the weather was terrible! We held out for just over a week and then booked our Whitsundays trip - ocean rafting. On the day of our trip we got so lucky as it was beautiful blue skies. Speaking to the tour guides they said that the day before had been awesome so we were in for a treat, they only get days like we had for about 2 weeks of the year. We first went to manta ray bay for some snorkelling and it was amazing, they threw fish pellets off the side of the raft and huge GTs and sea turtles were swimming around us. We then moved on to Whitehaven Beach; it was spectacular. The most amazing beach I have ever been to, the clear water and swirling sands were just beautiful. The sand consists of 98% pure silca which gives it a bright white color. Unlike regular sand, the sand on Whitehaven Beach does not retain heat making it comfortable to walk barefoot on a hot day. This sand is also very fine, and it is good at polishing up jewellery and exfoliating! The day was wicked and I would definitely recommend booking with X backpackers, Ocean Rafting.

We finally arrived in cairns after going up to Port Douglas and Cook Town, we stayed for a week in a place called Palm Cove in a lovely campsite right beside the sea. The moved into the city for our last week in Australia. We went diving at the T5 Canyons, The Great Barrier Reef. Parts of the coral was amazing, giant clams, squid and nemos were a plenty but I couldn't help but feel disappointed with the Great Barrier Reef experience. We saw more in the 10 minutes snorkelling than we did on all 3 of our dives and due to cyclones there is a lot of dead coral. It was still a good day out and we're glad we did it!

We can't believe our time in Australia has come to an end! Thanks to everyone that has made our time down under a million time more memorable and a huge thank you to everyone that has put us up on our travels, you have helped us out more than you know and we will never forget our time with you!

New Zealand, here we come!

Lots of love from
Xx Alex&Sam xX
