After almost 8 months without them it was finally time to collect mum and dad front he airport! Sam and I had already moved into a 2 bedroom apartment just around the corner from Hollie and Louise's apartment and it was perfect! We had huge amounts of space and a cool roof terrace that overlooked the city and cricket grounds. We watched about a million people greet their family and friends and we were still waiting for mum and dad, it was killing us! They eventually came through another gate and it was amazing to see them. Skype is great but it's no replacement for the real deal! After hearing about their few days in Dubai and how much stuff they'd managed to "smuggle" into Australia we headed back to the flat. They were so jet lagged that they slept most of the first day. That night we cooked indoors and played games until we were blue in the face :)

The weather was up and down over the next few days but we made sure that we saw everything they wanted to see in Sydney and Sam even had them fishing at Balmoral! We packed up our things, said goodbye to Sydney and headed up the coast. Sam drove for 6 hours to Coffs Harbour and when we arrived it was raining! We wondered down the street to find somewhere to eat an ended up walking miles to the closest place. It turned out to be worth the walk though, we saw a little kangaroo, stumbled across a beautiful beach and the food was great! Just as we're leaving Coffs Harbour a woman said to my mum that a storm was heading our way but we didn't take much notice.

The next day we went further north to Brunswick Heads, and ended up staying at a beautiful little motel with a swimming pool and BBQ area which we ate at both nights one night we even had one of Sam's catch of the day. We had two beautiful sunny days,we went back to Byron Bay for the day and spent the late afternoon back at Brunswick Heads Beach. On the day we headed to Noosa the weather gradually got worse and eventually we started hearing on the radio that a cyclone was heading our way!

Our house in Noosa was so nice! It was on a complex with other houses, tennis courts and a pool. The weather was shocking and getting worse by the minute so we decided to go to Australia Zoo, it was awesome! We fed kangaroos and held a Koala (cute but stinky!) we saw steve Irwin's daughter, Bindi, giving an interview and otters that caught a big lizard and were eating it (the lizard had escaped from his enclosure and obviously had a death wish when he climbed into the otters!) it was a really good day and by the time we left we were absolutely soaked. That evening we went to a Brazilian restaurant and all overdosed on meat!

The next day the weather was even worse so we went to Underwater World (huge aquarium). On the way to the aquarium the weather got really bad and we were listening to the radio telling us that areas just north of us were being evacuated. Trees had fallen at the side of the road and the river levels were extraordinarily high.  Not only was the cyclone heading south but 6 tornadoes were also going to follow. My mum and dad always have issues with the weather when they go on holiday..seriously what's that all about?!

When we got up the next day the skies were blue and the sun was beaming down. Bundaberg, just north of us was completely flooded and was in a terrible state and the worst of the cyclone had sweeper past us and was now heading to Brisbane. We couldn't believe our luck! We didn't waste anytime, we went straight to the beach and bathed and fished until the sun went down. It was the same for the next 3 days. It's a shame that the weather was as bad as it was because we planned on driving further north and diving the barrier reef with my dad but that didn't happen (sorry dad!). We still had an amazing time though, mum and dad both caught fish with the rod they bought when they got here and we ended up having a fish feast one evening - all caught and cooked by Sam!

We had a lot of fun with mum and dad and it was so good to see them after so long, they spoiled us whilst they were here and we really are grateful for everything they did for us they helped us out so much! Taking them back to Brisbane airport wasn't very nice but it was easier knowing that it's only 4 months this time until we see them again. Their time with us went far to quickly, their now enjoying Singapore (even though its still raining).

Thank you mum and dad for a lovely little holiday with you both, we are sorry you didn't get to see more if the coast but we still had fun! Love you both lots :)

We pick up our camper van tomorrow and become REAL backpackers....wish me luck!

Lots of Love
Alex & Sam xxx
