From Saigon we flew back to Bangkok and then to Phuket which turned out to be much easier and not as long winded as we originally thought it would be. We jumped in a taxi to an area called Kata, and we stayed in a hotel called Kata Beach Centre. If anyone is staying in this area you should definitely check this hotel out. It's in such a lovely area, 10 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from a strip of bars and restaurants (and elephants standing outside shops).

Kata beach is so much fun; the waves are very cool, sometimes a bit too forceful. Sam and I decided to get in the spirit and tried our hand at surfing! The first day we took it easy and did a bit of body boarding which was easy prays and of course after that we thought we were pro's so we rushed out to buy rash tops and hired a real surf board. The day we got the surf board (which was huge by the way) the waves were so crazy that I think they would have challenged some of the real deal surfer dudes - so we had no hope! Nevertheless we headed out and after about 5 minutes of being hit with the board and drowning under the mighty waves I gave up. Sam, however, soldiered on for the remaining hour that we had rented the board for and got absolutely battered! At one point he even swam out to where the professionals were and tried to copy them, that didn't go so well. (A week later and Sam still has some of his bruises).

We jumped on a ferry to Koh Phi Phi and decided to book a hotel that was a little bit more expensive but that seemed to be worth the money. We turned up and it was starting to drizzle (oh no) then we got to our (expensive) hotel only to be told that 1) we had no wifi, anywhere in the bungalow/resort and 2) the swimming pool was out of use (nooooooo). Needless to say we were a little bit grumpy but once we were settled into our rooms and had a walk around the island everything was fine (were travelling the world, seeing some of the most amazing places whilst everyone else is grafting at home - we can deal with no wifi/pool!)

We got a long tail boat to long beach which was beautiful but just another beach so we decided to go on a boat trip which stopped at Monkey Island, Viking Lagoon and Maya Bay. Monkey Island, as you can imagine, is an island full of Monkeys all hanging out of trees waiting for tourist to come and feed them and take pictures. At one point a monkey jumped onto a speed boat and stole a bottle of coke and literally sat on the end of the boat sipping the bottle...it was like he was posing for pictures! Then we moved on to Viking lagoon for some kayaking and snorkelling. The snorkelling was great and I was so surprised at how many fish there seemed to be and at how they were really not afraid of getting close to us. We then went to Maya Bay which is quite honestly breath taking, the most beautiful white sand and clear blue sea (this is where they filmed parts of 'The Beach'.

The nightlife in Koh Phi Phi is nuts and would recommend any one looking for a party island definitely head there. We headed to the beach for the evening and it was crazy, fire dancers everywhere and people dancing the night away. We sat down to get a drink when the fire games began. For a free shot people were jumping over skipping ropes that were doused in petrol and set on fire, the people were doing the limbo under poles that were on fire - blazing fire. And yes, people were getting burnt! When we arrived on the island we had noticed a lot of people walking around with bandages on there legs and chests and the clinic and pharmacy was always (ALWAYS) packed with people and that night we realised why!

We left Koh Phi Phi (cat island) after 4 nights and headed to Krabi. The hotel that we booked was a cheap £10 a night place and we was shocked to find a huge room, safe, tv and free wifi (woohoo). It just goes to show you, you don't always get what you pay for!

Tomorrow we head to Koh Samui which we are both really looking forward to! That's all for now :)

Love from
Alex & Sam
