Alex: We got into Byron Bay at midday and checked into a hostel that Lonely Planet said was "excellent". After about 10 minutes and one visit to the showers we decided it was scruffy and a bit too dirty for our liking. Oh well, its close to the beach. As it was a hot Sunday afternoon the town and beach were bustling, we claimed a spot of grass just next to the beach (all the benefits of beach without the sand!) and passed the day people watching, reading and witnessing the construction of an incredibly complex sandcastle.
The following day things were a bit quieter and we headed up to the lighthouse and took a walk around the headland. The weather was gorgeous and we got great views of the beaches in the area. We also saw loads of bush turkeys so many that we decided they were too prevalent to be very tasty! We then decided to take one of our regular cinema trips to see Spiderman 3, I'm not sure if it is meant to be a comedy but I laughed the whole way through, the "bad" Peter Parker looks like a Spandex Ballet member!
The rest of our busy schedule in Byron Bay was spent on the beach, watching the surfers, topping up our tans and occasionally venturing into the water to have fun getting swept around by the massive waves (lots of fun!).
