Alex: Ah, a sea crossing without the sickness! For once the sea behaved itself for us and our Cook Strait crossing was wonderfully smooth. The Marlborough sounds were beautiful, the sun was shinning, the sky was blue, the sea was that wonderful deep turquoise-green and on all sides we were surrounded by lush green hills and islands. We spent the hour on the deck enjoying the view and the warm sun.

We arrived into Picton, checked into our hostel, ate chip-shop chips looking out over the Sounds (and surrounded by seagulls after we misguidedly fed the one solitary one which attracted all the others in the area!) Having been stuck in a car for the best part of two days we decided to take a short walk through the hills to a bay tucked around a corner, it was very pretty and peaceful and a nice way to start our time in the South Island, off to Nelson tomorrow.
