Alex: We decided to swap one spectacular volcano for another one, and this one was smoking! Pucon is very well located (as long as there are no eruptions) as it sits just below the conical of volcan Villarrica and on the shores of the lake of the same name and both are spectacular. It's pretty touristy but we arrived at the end of the season so things had quietened down a bit I think but there was the possibility to do every and any activity you could dream of. The hotel was nice but a bit of a come down after the cottage, ho hum, back to reality I suppose.
We spent one day just chilling out on the black sand beach of the gorgeous, blue Lago Villarrica and trying to top up the tan, typically Dad is browner than both of us and he has only been here 7 days! We decided not to climb the volcano, although the opportunity to look into the glowing crater of a volcano was tempting. Instead we just checked out the spectacular local country side. We started at the scariest bridge ever, how it stayed up I do not know, the sign said only one car permitted at a time, my question was could it cope with that? The river below was beautiful though, one of the perfect clear blue rivers that seem so common around here, surrounded by green hills, mountains and of course, the odd volcano. We finished the day off with the most amazing steak ever (sorry Frazer) and some wonderful photos of the volcano at sunset.
