Alex; It was up early and on a boat to Colonia in Uruguay only an hour from Buenos Aires. After the smoothest boat ride (and catamaran at that) of my life we got to the prettiest town ever. Even the ugly bits were pretty. In the old town all the streets are cobbled, the buildings are colonial, there is a fort, pretty squares, basically you could not help but love this place. We tried a local specialty Chivita, basically a steak sandwich with everything imaginable on it, in a place overlooking the sea, which was surprisingly brown - it looked more like a big river than the sea, very odd. Having wandered around the town, and feeling the need to do very little else we settled down in the main square with a book.
After some delicious food and a surprisingly good Uruguayan wine (no we didn't think they made wine either) we went back to the hostel with a bottle of beer (they only come in litres here) for a quiet evening, which meant we got drunk with the other hostels (including a guy from Stockport - small world) and didn't go to bed until 2.30.

Brown Sea
Hey! you need only come to Weston-super-Mare to get sea THAT colour!
:-/
I can see why you loved the town though, and I love those old cars, and what they have been used for.
I can 'feel' your enthusiasm for the place.
Take Care.
