Alex: What a nightmare. The Posadas itself is really nice little town but we just had loads of problems. We arrived at about 17.30 and had a quick look around the bus terminal for buses to Buenos Aires and as there were loads didn't think we would have a problem getting tickets so left to find a hotel. We got the local bus and headed to somewhere recommended in Lonely Planet but it was full. We walked in the heat with our bags for a dozen blocks to another - also full. We sat and considered our options and decided to head back to the bus station (we didn't see many cheap hotels on our wanders) to try to get a bus straight to Buenos Aires. When we arrived (another local bus) and checked out a couple of companies there were no tickets,  we had a few more to check when a guy approached us to say there were no more tickets but he had a bus leaving late for only $20 which was about right, we agreed feeling he was right about the tickets and went to pay up. We gave our info and suddenly the price was $100, "No Way!" said we and, when we couldn't haggle. buggered off. Unfortunately the guy was right, there were no more tickets so it was another local bus to the centre to find a hotel. We hit another hotel recommended by LP and again it was full, but there was another one next door.... We asked the lady if she had any rooms, she sounded reluctant like she had rooms but didn't want to give them away, we looked desperate and success she had a room. Odd think is, the whole time we were there the town was dead! Maybe they just didn't like the look of us...either that or we smelt.....

We didn't do much in the town. It is situated on a river which marks the border with Paraguay so we walked along the front looking over at Paraguay. We then wandered through centre and some of the squares and concluded that Posadas is a very pleasant place if a little quiet - where were all those people who were checked into the hotels - where were the people who lived there for that matter? This mystery will have to remain unsolved as we successfully caught our bus to Buenos Aires without finding out....
