Where I stayed
Dean: The original plan was to just spend a night in Las Vegas but once we got there we initially kind a got carried away with the atmosphere! We stayed for 3 nights at Circus Circus, which is one of the older casinos but is reasonably priced. We dropped our bags off at the hotel and then went in search of Elvis and the wedding chapels. The wedding only took about 10 minutes and then it was back to the casino to celebrate...
... not really, maybe next time we are in Vegas!
After the initial buzz of Vegas, I actually started to go off it. Vegas is very impressive - lots of glamour, no expense spared, anything goes. But after a day or so I felt that it was very false. It's all about getting the money out of your pocket and into theirs. It's capitalism gone mad! Saying that, we did do a bit of gambling, and won! I went there wanting to play some Black Jack, but after a few free lessons from the casino (very nice of them) we decided that Craps was the game for us! We actually got well into it and with our conservative style of betting and a number of hours at the table, we actually ended up winning enough money to pay for all of the expenses we encountered in Vegas and still leave with a nice amount of cash in our pockets. Thank you very much Las Vegas!
I'm glad we went to Vegas but I'm not sure we would go back if we were in the USA in the future (for one thing, you lot would be expecting us to tie the knot!).
Alex: All that said, we did get to see the Manhatten skyline and Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower and Grand Canal of Vence in less than 24 hours - in a world without concord it's the only way you'll be able to do that! The amount of money that has been spent on the place (and at the place) is quite obscene but at the same time quite impressive mainly for the fact that anyone would have the audacity to copy themse iconic buildings. There is also an obviously seedier side as well, with people handing you pictures of scantily clad girls offering their, ehmm, services on every street. At least we won!
