Bordeaux today. Stopped there for lunch (nice and light - another 4 courses would have done us in) and a wander around the city. A protest halted our progress slightly but it is a beautiful old city but still vibrant with cafes a plenty and lots of little boutique shops.

We headed out of the city parallel with our planned route for tomorrow on a smaller road looking for a campsite near Arcachon. There are noticeably fewer villages here - normally we are barely out of one village before we are in the next. And fewer campsites too.

We stopped at the first one we found in Biganos and, after pitching up, made full use of the swimming pool. Normally the number of flies on the surface of the pool - almost a film - would have put me off but it is so hot now that the cold water was just too enticing.

Cooler and much more refreshed, we went to Arcachon for our tea. It's a popular seaside resort pretty but not quite for us.

After an enormous mound of moules frites (with lots of dill and cream) we had a pleasant stroll along the front and were shocked to see people still sunbathing.

Later we realised we had been absolutely devoured by mosquitoes. Itchy beyond belief.
