The longer we spend in Lebanon the more we feel the connection with Australia. Apparently there are 4 million Lebanese in Lebanon and 11 million outside, with 1 of those 11 living outside in Australia.....don't quote me on that, it's just what they tell us.

I do know one thing for sure everyone we talk with has an uncle, an aunt, a sister, a brother, a girlfriend, a cousin, a daughter, a parent or a friend living in Australia and everyone is so happy to see us.

A man in a fruit shop proved the point to me, he spoke very little English but gave us a big smile and said....hello....welcome to Lebanon....where are you from? Germany?....France?......Sweden?

I'm Australian I said. Oh,....so are you from Perth?... Melbourne?...Sydney?

Sydney I replied and this is for sure nothing new, we had kids in Ethiopia who could guess that we were from Sydney or Melbourne. But then he said....Oh so, are you from Liverpool?... Casula?... Fairfield?... Bankstown?

He could tell from the smile on my face that I was impressed......these people know stuff about Australia!!
