Java - Borobudur
Borobudur is a ninth century Mahayana Buddhist monument plopped down in central Java, and jewel in the crown of Indonesia's historic landmarks. Said to be the largest Budhist structure in the southern hemisphere. Its big and bold and great to clamber about on. Extensive restoration has brought this structure back to its previous splendour, or at least, something quite close. In fact, such a good job has been done, it feels a little sterile. Even the grounds surrounding the monument are manicured neatly.
We took an afternoon white water rafting here, which proved to be fun, but I suspect the river wasn't running at it's wildest, since I barely felt much exhilaration.
