Saturday 12th July
Woke up early and hungover somehow with no alarm (no phone). Went to the school and got a bus for a 2 day excursion to the rainforest. First stop was a short walk to a massive waterfall where we could swim in the plunge pool. Then a 2 hour trek through some primary rainforest.
Lots of high wobbley bridges to cross. Now I know why its called a "rain" forest, it rained constantly. Didn't see many animals, best was a sloth we saw from the bus earlier.
Our motel was a nice step up in luxury, it had hot water. Went to a pretty rubbish restaurant, had a mediocre pizza and went to bed really early.
Sunday 13th July
Got up specially early to skype Steph but ... its Sunday so everything is shut. Had a typical Costa Rican breakfast "Gallo Pinto" (rice and beans again). Long drive down a very bumpy track into the rainforest. We were on the carribean side of the volcanos so it was very humid and the plantlife was bigger.
Trekked about two hours to find the Rio Celeste, a cloudy sky blue colour from the minerals in the volcano. The blue lagoon was pretty amazing. We also saw the point where the blue river connects with a clear river and each half was a different colour. We then went to a point where the river was heated by the volcano belowand went for a swim. I stepped into a steaming pool and burn't my foot so bad it started bleeding. Met some Bulgarian Texans on the tour too. We also stopped at a blue waterfall.
Long journey home. Bought a Costa Rican keyring, emailed home, went to bed.
