We had a fantastic few days in Colorado Springs. On our first full day there we took a tour of the Cave of the Winds. This supposedly haunted cave was opened in the late 1800s and the tours used to take up to 9 hours and with only two areas where you could stand! Today it has been opened up and had concrete floors and lighting added. Our tour guide Brian was very knowledgeable and funny and we would definitely recommend the trip. The caves were originally owned by the man who found them (sorry can't remember his name!) who left the caves to the city on the condition that they always mentioned his name on the tour (!) and that they inscribed his favourite poem on the wall. In the afternoon we walked to Old Town Colorado Springs (only 2mins from our hotel - the Quality Inn) and had a lovely stroll down the high street. I also attempted to (and failed miserably) eat the largest sandwich I have ever seen!

On our second day we walked a few miles north of our hotel to the Garden of the Gods. This park was originally owned by a wealthy businessman who on his death donated the park to the city on the condition that it always remained free to the public. The park contains trails leading to bizarre red rock formations, many of which the public can climb on and scramble over. Although we got a little carried away following the trails (as we still had to walk the 3 miles back to our hotel) we had an awesome day out.

Sunday is the dreaded 28 hour Greyhound bus ride to San Francisco!!
