So this weekend we are in Luxembourg to visit Mia and Razvan. We have decided to drive here because the train takes 5 hours, has 4 changes and costs quite a bit.

Basically we left Eindhoven at 4:45 pm and headed south, through Maastricht and Liege, then through the Ardennes to Luxembourg. There was initially really bad, stop start traffic on the freeway but it cleared up after a bit. The drive was uneventful - we saw snow in the Ardennes but the weather in Luxembourg is similar to Eindhoven - rainy, cold, grey.

We arrived around 9 and had a small dinner prepared by Maxim and Mia. Started off with some local cheeses, salami, and foie gras; followed by creamy chicken with spatzl and apple pie for dessert.

This morning we headed into town with Mia and saw the few sights Luxembourg has to offer. Luxembourg city is famous for the big valley in the middle of it. It would have been a beautiful sight to behold in one's eye were it embraced in summers soft delight. There were bridges too.

So we walked around the city centre and saw some plazas, the duke's palace, and the markets. At the palace there was a ceremonial guard with an assault rifle at the gate and Ioana was convinced he was a mannekin until he started shooting doves. Then she realised he was a real boy.

Opposite the palace we visited a chocolate house to warm up. We each had a hot chocolate, made by dissolving a block of chocolate in the bottom of the mug of hot milk (you could choose which variety of chocolate you wanted, there were 50+ types). I had 60% cocoa and Ioana had raspberry and almond. It was pretty awesome.

For lunch we bought some roast chicken and potatoes to have at home. Mia and Razvan suggested we head to Metz, in France, after lunch because there is lots to do there, so thats what we did!

Pictures tomorrow night when we get home because we don't have a cable for the SLR with us.
