Quite unexpectedly we found that this place was far more luscious in vegetation than we'd ever imagine. We caught the train from El Fuerte and spent 8 hours slowly chugging through an overwhelming green canyon, with some quite serious drops a foot or two away from the tracks. Luckily we were going slow. But unluckily for a train quite some years ago, as our conductor informed us, they weren't and when careening off the tracks and plummeting down the canyon, you could still see some of the wreckage.
