Copper Canyon starts of at the town of Creel, which can be reached
from Basasiachi , or back from highway 16.

Creel itself is boring, but is the starting point of a very fun drive through the
canyon.  (its not like grand canyon, more like those deep french alps
canyons).

The road winds along for about 80 miles on asfalt through fantastic
sights along.  you could just leave it there and go on the asfalt road south
towards Guachochi (another Canyon there!) and Hidalgo del Parral.

OR, you could take the 70 miles dirt road trip down into the vallee to a
pueblo called Batopilas.
The Turnoff is just past a Pemex Gas station (dont forget to fill up !!!)

Well thats what i did. The suspension of my westy was jelling at me all the time.  ok, a volkswagen never dies, i thought.  indeed i made it to the
bottom.  a bit of disappointment. this little village had not much to offer as an attraction.

so the attraction is the ride on the 2000m down the valley serpentines narrow muddy bumpy rocky road.

the road preferres vehicles with high bottom clearance.

just imagine, there is a regular bus-service to Batopilas.
The bus actually roarred up on me on my accent back to the top.

jap, must be a fun ride.

You know, you must not do that trip. if you do, your car is shaken in every little corner there is, believe me.
