Made it, just!

Did a campervan relocation from Adelaide to Perth, unfortunately on day 4 it broke down!!! Fortunately we managed to breakdown in the town of Kalgoorlie right beside a BP petrol station, some shops and right beside a police car who kindly got out and pushed us to the side of the road!

Had to wait until the next day to get a mechanic out, turns out it had problems with the gearbox and driveshaft, whatever that is, and it would take around a week to fix so the campervan company said we can either wait about for it or find our own transport to Perth. After having a look round Kalgoorlie we decided to get the first train out of town. Kalgoorlie is a working gold mine town - it does look like something out of the wild west! Complete with brothels (so said the mechanic) and loads of bars with bar maids in bikinis.

The journey across the plain was really good! Did over 2000km and may have been hell if I didn't have my ipod with an adapter for the cassette player. The first night we stopped off at a place called Port Pirrie and saw our first Aussie rules football, was really good after we got what was going on, get it now though - kick run catch punch. They do love a good scrap! When a fight starts they just keep on playing and when the fight finished you would see the players coaches run on an pat their players on the back! The second night we stayed in an abandoned rundown caravan park in a place called Yalata, which is on Aboriginal land. We were the only people there, thank god we never broke down there. The next night we stayed in a parking area in the outback with a few other campervans. We both thought the outback was amazing, never seen colours like it. Didn't see too much wildlife, saw a couple of dingos, an emu, loads of wedgetailed eagles eating all the road kill and we saw 2 kangaroos that I had to quickly stop for as they bounced in front of the van! Theres also meant to be camels out there but never saw one.

So far Perth seems quite nice, had a walk round town today and went to the Perth Mint where all the gold in western australia is processed into jewelery and gold bars, was pretty good - part of the tour was the guide pouring molten gold into a mould and making a gold bar. Went up for a couple of drinks in an area called Northbridge, which was totally mobbed cos The Darkness are playing up there - 35 quid a tick!!?!

Arrived in Perth on the 3rd and going to hire a car for a few days and go south of Perth. No relocations available at the moment but keeping an eye out for the next relocation that we can break

Kalgoorlie
Hi Guys

Surprised that Allan deceided to do a runner from kalgoorlie particularly in light of the amenities available according to the mechanic!
Hope you are able to get another Campervan relocation
although it looks like one hell of a drive up to Cairns. Does the company not do jet relocations? I am sure Allan will have flown one many times on the XBox!

Ma and Pa Gordon and the wean and the dug.
