Driving to Hervey Ranges was interesting as we didn't have much information on the caretaking job we had said yes to,heading to Hervey ranges you could see it was a climb up the hills and yes it was.The views were spectacular as we climbed higher,we arrived at the Tea rooms and what a lovely place. We were given a spot to put the van and were told to relax for a few days and than we would be shown around.Tuesday we got up and got stuck into racking leaves, weeding and general tiding up of the gardens, met the ladies in the tea rooms who were lovely we were given scones with jam & cream. The scones were massive we shared one and had the second one the next day, they are well known for their scones and CAT POO COFFEE

Kopi Luwak
(Cat Poo Coffee)

Not only can visitors experience the oldest building in North Queensland, the peace and tranquility of the outback, warm hospitality and great food... they can also experience the rarest coffee in the world – Kopi Luwak!
The sale of Kopi Luwak was introduced to our menu in November 2006 and has been in itself an attraction for curious locals and tourists alike. What makes this coffee the most unique in the world, is that the coffee beans are eaten and then passed through the digestive tract of the Asian Palm Civet – a cat like animal that lives in the jungles of Indonesia. While in the stomach, the cat's digestive juices leech out many of the proteins responsible for the bitterness in coffee and result in a smoother, sweeter flavour. A media release and subsequent media frenzy brought approximately $5 million of publicity to not only Hervey’s Range Heritage Tea Rooms but also the Townsville region! As a result, this world wide exposure peeked the interest of the writers for the movie "The Bucket List" in 2007 (starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman) and they incorporated the Kopi Luwak coffee into their script as the staple beverage for Nicholson's character! These coffee beans sell at $1200 USD per kilo! And every week we average approximately 7 customers who visit Hervey's Range Heritage Tea Rooms for the explicit purpose of tasting our infamous $50 cup of Kopi Luwak coffee! We then present them with a “Certificate of Experience”as a momento so to remember their unique encounter!

We haven't tried it,we have had a Chai Latte and that was so nice we have gone back for a second. So we have been doing the gardens, alot of weeding and watering. They also have a fairy garden for the kids so we got in and cleaned that up,if I was a kid I would have been scared to go in there, there was a headless fairy(what happened to her head?).
We have been to Townsville a couple of times,we are only 30 min from Townsville,we purchased a satelite dish we now have crystal clear channels and heaps of them. One day we went to Townsville for a full day so for the first time we put the dogs into a resort, they were there for 8 hours. When we picked them up they smelt nice and had been fed and had behaved themselves. The resort even had plasma tv's so that of a night time they were turned on for the dogs(to keep them quite and make them feel at home). They stilled loved us at the end of the day,I think they actually enjoyed a day away from us,we actually felt like it was a date being on our own LOL.We enjoyed working around the tearooms,Cath also helped out in the Kitchen and all the lady's just thought Al was beautiful. The last night we had Ivan meet up with us again,so good to hear about his travels to Cape York, well done Ivan making it to the tip and thanks for joining us for the last super(we will come visit you in Albury and enjoy your dinners).
We had a lovely camp fire and enjoyed the piece and quite,we will miss this lovely place but time to move on,we are heading for Ingham as Al has been offered a job in tractor driving amongst the cane fields and we all know Al the big kid he is I can't stop him from wanting to think he is Farmer Al.
Will keep you up to date on how many tractors he destroys LOL
