Getting to Syros was a long sail from Mykonos. When we got there we docked up against the waterfront - right onto the front of a restaurant (there were heaps lining the dock). We decided to cook on the boat that night (except Tom & Marilyn) so we headed to the shops to get some supplies for dinner. Dinner was great and it was fun just chilling on the yacht with some drinks and good friends. Just a few days into the trip and we are all laughing and joking like old friends - being so close breeds familiarity really quickly. Alby had a bit of a brainwave that afternoon and decided to run up our Australian flag on the yacht. Sotiris didn't mind so up the flag went and stayed there for the rest of the week. Looks great - especially when there are heaps of small American/Greek/French etc flags on other boats!!
We rented some cars the next day (see photo) and headed to Delphini - a beach on the other side of the island, recommended by Sotiris. Because no one else really drives manuals, Albert and I had to drive the cars. It was a bit strange being on the other side of the car and driving on the other side of the road, but we got the hang of it. The beach was pretty nice, a few rocks but mostly sand and clear water after the first few metres. We relaxed all day - reading, sleeping, eating, swimming, walking....it was a great day off the boat. We were all a bit peckish after doing nothing all day so had a quick snack at the taverna just off the beach. The owner was really nice and recommended stuff for us to eat. He even said that if we didn't like it we could send it back. Not likely with Albert and Hersch around!
A few people get a bit 'land sick' after being on the boat all day - its a strange phenomenon. No one throws up or anything, but they feel queasy because when you sit down the room or ground moves around like you are on the boat.
Dinner on the yacht again that night (Heather and Cindy's turn to cook). A fantastic gourmet meal of couscous salad (thanks jacqueline), hot dogs and spring rolls. Heather and I really know how to cook!!! We were also really glad that Albert and Kyle did the dishes.....WAY too many!
