Forgive keyboard issues, this is a nokia entry. Rainy evening in Xiasha, the armpit of Hangzhou. Arrived here a few ours ago, and pleasantly surprised at how much nicer this apartment is after many days in a room a the hostel! The main room is quite spacious with a big arching window to cheer things up and the dinky bedroom is a perfect place to play the sax! we are on the end and the sax room is in a far corner with no neighbors' so I can practice as much as i want without pissing off the next door neighbor. The accoustics in my practice room are nice and I can look out the window as I play. Speaking of "playing"' i jammed for a half hour this afternoon and the horn sounds great! i had it serviced before i left and didn't try it out until today. This old aristocrat rivals the King Zephyr in sound but lacks the upper end intonation issues of the zephyr. I haven't lost too much skill after a 6 week break from practicing. Now I'll be back to a minimum of one full hour per day until I get enough skills to play with some local bands. Jazz seems to be pretty big in Hangzhou.

NEXT DAY REPORT: I did hear from a new neighbor that she heard a "trumpet" when standing outside her porch which is two doors down from me.  Oh well,  she didn't seem to mind,  I guess that sound really carries in a cement building.   Glad this building is cement because the fire code is entirely different over here.

The new neighbor and another colleague of mine from upstairs went shopping at the local supermarket this afternoon and then out to dinner.   Nice people to work with.  We all have to go to the doctor tomorrow in order to get checked out so we can receive our certificates of residency.   Since we are not allowed to eat beforehand,  I suspect a cholesterol test is forthcoming.   Perfect excuse for a big lunch.     Also discovered that a couple in the apartment building next to ours has a convenience store in their place with good prices!

I also found out my work schedule which includes three day weekends!  and only two days that I have to get up early in the mornings.   My busiest day is only 5 hours of work!   This is what I came to China for after all...   I fully hope to stay for many years to come.

Me too! Read them from start to finish this afternoon. You have smoothed out some of the early entries, I noticed. Good work! Easier to read! Please don't stay for "years to come."

Looks like a nice apartment. I hope the neighbors are OK with the music. But you have talent so they should be appriciative of the Music.

Peace,
Chuck
