What I did
Decompress, walk around, sleep, experience an easy first full day in China

Flag of China  , Zhejiang Sheng,

Woke up at 8 AM after getting bits and pieces of sleep the previous night,   in which I watched episodes of "Everyone loves Raymond",  while sleeping in 15 minute chunks.   I guess it's too exciting to be in a new country and having to postpone the experience with sleep.

I went out to look for some brekkies but after the first two restaurants had Chinese Only menus with no pictures,  I went back to the hotel and tried out their elaborate buffet.   I tried a bit of everything and ran from a few offerings.   The Chinese sausage tasted like plastic and pig hooves,  the dumplings had unidentifiable meat in them and tasted like plastic,   the spring rolls were in the dumpling catagory,  another type of dumpling was bready and sweet which was great with the excellent coffee they served.   I opened the steamer that said "Eggs" and there were two types,   rotten brown in the shell and rotten black in the shell.   I avoided them.

Went back to the room and caught more zzz's and Raymond episodes,  then realized my new 100 yuan sim card for my phone didn't work so my only communication is with e-mail from the hotels computer.    Back in my room I noticed that the plastic bag with my dirty clothes was missing and I was a bit worried that my famous gold shirt was thrown in the trash.   I tracked down the maid and through pantimime showed her another bag,   put some clothes in it,  and demonstrated where it was and that now it's gone.   She showed me a laundry form to let me know its at the cleaners,   I showed her the trashcan and she got a laugh that I thought she threw them away.   I can pantomime anything when I know nothing of the language.  Really wish I took some classes and learned a few key phrases,   I don't even know how to say "Thank you" I just bow and smile and look like an idiot doing it,  but it gets the point across.   Still lots of smiling and pointing when I walk by,  but I don't mind it at all.

I did see my first public urination in the form of a 9 year old boy on the sidewalk who was too lazy to pull his pants back up,  he just walked inside the store I was in with his junk hanging out.   Too funny,   I had to step over his puddle on my way out.    More to come,  and I promise some pics soon when I get my computer hooked up.

Cheers,

Allen

I love those rotten brown eggs. They are boiled in tea. You can find them at every 7-11 over there boiling in a rice cooker on the counter. The black ones taste like vasoline. Avoid them at all cost.
