Coming full circle I gazed out of the window near the end of the seven hour flight seeing the sunrise just as we cruised over the green and pleasant land of southern England not having seen it for over a year.

Touchdown in Blighty!

Think I had managed to block out the reality of returning home until I was stepping off the plane at Heathrow certainly not being the first off trying to delay it as much as possible before going through customs and immigration, for the first time all year not having to fill out another Visa/immigration form.

Was everyone always so white and British sounding when I left?

With a five hour wait till my final flight north to Glasgow I found out how little there is to do in Heathrow's domestic departure lounge taking the time to reacquaint myself with UK money again not immediately recognizing some of the coins.

Back over Scotland the green rolling hills looked better than ever as we descended into Glasgow stepping out of the airport into the cold pissing rain and grey miserable looking clouds knowing then I was definitely back, watching any tan still left on me being washed off.

Taking the train home via the same route as I did when I left it was another few hours journey giving me more time to try and process everything as it crawled closer to home as the unchanged scenery rolled past the window.

The final leg home, a ten mile drive from the station to my small home village of Glenluce a far cry from the rush of New York just a few hours before.

With my Mum not able to make it to meet me at the station I arrived at her work opening the door to find her standing there guessing a little pleased to see me, glad that I had not been mugged, killed, eaten or married or at least not without an invite. I'm sure she appreciated the  washing I'd brought her as well.

So home at last, feels strange to say the least but I'm sure nothing that at a nights sleep in my own bed can't fix.
