The Pacific Northwest gets it's fair share of rain thinking I got a lucky for most of the time in Seattle to just find out it was waiting for me here. The slow morning waiting for the rain to ease off gave some time to update my journal trying to decide what I thought about Vancouver. I know it is more often than not seen as a model of the idyllic city but for some reason I just wasn't feeling it. Maybe you have to live here to 'get it' or maybe the rain just plain sucks.

Vancouver's Rodeo drive, although more like oxford street, provided enough window shopping entertainment and more importantly shelter to hide from the wet stuff falling. The more favorable exchange rate north of the border did make me want to seek out a bigger bag though after spotting more than a few un-carryable bargains.

Dawdling over to the 2nd largest Chinatown in North America after San Francisco, it had enough authentic Asian charm and character to almost make me feel like I was back in that amazing part of the world taking in the sights and smells of the street side markets with their fresh and dried 'I haven't a clues'.

As much as I may not be getting the city I was certainly admiring it's inhabitants though for their resilience with the night air here less than tropical yet seeing a lot of people at bars sitting drinking outside. Suppose it must keep the beer cold if nothing else.
