Vancouver is a city that has been voted the best city in the world in which to live with it's natural setting below the snow capped mountains and located next to the ocean (or close enough) it certainly has a lot going for it.

Wiping my feet after I left the hostel (I'm guessing those judges never stayed here), I headed over to the downtown YHA which as generic and characterless as they maybe I would still take one of them any day of the week over last night's cesspit. Plus the bonus of arriving earlier enough to still make it for the free breakfast.

Gastown is not I found out, a hang out for baked bean enthusiasts but the oldest part of Vancouver, named after a British sailor who opened the first bar here, bet he was fun room mate. I spent some time walking around here checking out it's peculiar steam powered clock like something out of a 1930's vision of the future. Where's my flying car?

Wandering down by the marina I crossed over to Granville island passing a group of druggies shooting up beneath the bridge (guess even the best cities have the same problems) to check out the Granville market full of a bunch if cheeses, meats, pastries, fruits and more cheese. Getting a rumbling stomach I headed back to make use of the express kitchen in the hostel consisting of a toaster and microwave. Being a single guy though I didn't really see what was missing.
