Leaving Aitutaki behind this morning the flight back to Rarotonga was full but still getting a window seat to gaze out of at the lagoon below as we took off.
Left my bag at the airport once we had touched down to take a wander into town to see if I could pick up a new pair of shoes to replace the ones lost in Fiji. Didn't fancy arriving in LA with nowt but flip flops.
With not a great deal of places to chose from to spend some wonga in on footwear, especially in a place wear shoes are a rarity, I did manage to find one store with a very friendly (or bored) assistant. Regaling me with tales from her childhood to her Grandma's cooking, I almost had to interrupt her in the end just so I could find out the price of the shoes
Returning to Vara's I lounged around in the afternoon soaking up the last of the South Pacific weather wondering when next I would get to lie by the beach in 30 degrees.
Back at the airport met a girl called Katie from Seattle returning home after a year of travel. Heading to Las Vegas first though she talked about buying a car their and driving up the west coast back home inviting me along on what would fit in perfectly with my plan for 'ol US of A.
With the runway lights not coming on until the plane was only a few minutes out it was only a brief stop for it here before whisking us off to Tahiti for another layover of 2 hours this time as Katie and I wondered about leaving the airport for 2 minutes just to get the passport stamp.
At last it was time to hit America. Growing up with American TV and films from the A-Team to Fraggle Rock to say America had a bit of an influence on me in my rugrat days would not be too far from the truth. Back then I dreamed of visiting the land of Kermit the Frog with that wanderlust slowly fading over time. Until now, once more feeling like a little kid again.
