Hung around in the morning waiting on the bus to Chiang Khong on the Thai-Laos border where I would have to spend the night the slow boat on the Lao side only leaving in the morning.

Gift, who was away all morning at a local school, turned up to see me off when I also met Steve (New Zealand) and Nicki (Canada) from the trek also squeezing into the bus who were both traveling independently also but had met up a few weeks earlier. Joining us was a couple of annoying older French guys who insisted on Nicki speaking French since she was from Canada despite her repeating over and over she spoke not a word of it.

With all the rain over the last week today turned into a scorching hot sunny day which was typical giving that we would spend most of it stuck on a bus with modern 'open window air conditioning'.

The bus stopped occasionally on the way giving Steve a chance to buy a bike lock and a piece a rope at a roadside stall for whatever reason we could not fathom with him simply explaining "They were cheap".

The guest house in Chiang Khong was right on the river giving great views over the Mekong to Laos in evening which we whiled away playing cards with two other Israeli girls listening to some chilled out music and drinking Thai whiskey, perhaps getting ourselves into the more sedate pace of things in preparation of entering Laos in the morning.
