Waking up with the sun already pouring through the window with the sounds of the many insects still chirping away outside and water buffalo ambling by you think to yourself "I'm teaching in Thailand" and can't help but smile.
With yesterday's heavy rain the dirt track driveway had the car sitting spinning it's wheels for ages spewing mud everywhere before finally lurching free as I realized why 4WD can be such a necessity out here.
The students seemed a tad more talkative today either due to their growing confidence in speaking English in front of me or due to the no doubt steady decline of their respect for me owing to the numerous times I've embarrassed myself in class, all for the good of teaching of course (well, almost all).
Trying to get them to feel more comfortable talking English and engage them in conversation has seen a little success in a one-on-one situation but attempting to repeat the performance in class normally always results in fits of giggles and definitely always when I try some Thai on them.
One of the hardest things of all seems to be the easiest questions until you think about it such as being asked the difference between a street and a road and trying to explain what something like cheesy means. What the heck is the difference between a street and road anyway?
