Never been so glad that I had started to learn Thai than this morning when offered beetles for breakfast and managed to simply explain "I'm full".

So my first proper class today and what better way to be eased into it than on my own with no one to help translate even just so I can understand what the kids are surely saying about me!

Still having trouble trying to remember people's names though today met a Thai Thai teacher (teaches Thai ya'see) whose nickname was for some reason the Thai for old chicken, making it a little easier but raising more questions than I knew how to ask yet in Thai.

With Khunmaa away, another teacher drove me home leaving me to fend for myself for a few hours. Wandering outside I was invited to join some of the relatives (just don't ask which ones) for a few beers which soon became another real test of Thai due to their lack of English. All were extremely friendly though and not one to be defeated by a little thing such as a being unable to communicate there soon appeared a children's Thai-English book allowing us to at least agree on farm yard animals and the colour of fruit.

The beetles for breakfast were balanced with some of the tribe hunting around nearby for frogs for dinner which they gleefully showed me a bag full of the little things. My sympathy for them soon waned though on trying to get some sleep with what sounded like an army of thousands of them croaking long into the night.
