Today we boarded the Rocky Mountaineer train to travel from Banff to Kamloops on the first passage to the west route. We spent 10 hours on the train today through stunning scenery of the Rockies, passing through gorges, past lakes and through mountains, We travelled through the spiral passages that I mentioned in an earlier blog. The weather changed from just above zero degrees in banff to a balmy 20 celcius in kamloops tonight!! We were well fed and watered on the train and had great views sat on the upper carriage of the train with panoramic windows and clear roof. No bear sightings today, but we did see bald eagles and osprey nests. We also saw LOADS of salmon in the rivers whilst we went through British Columbia, very red in colour, swimming up stream to spawn, an absolutely amazing sight, and we should see loads more tomorrow, and possibly even some bears or eagles hunting them or some spawning grounds...,

Tonight we are staying in kamloops, a slightly odd place after being in the Rockies, where temperatures were in single digits, and we did see snow. As the town is to the east of the mountains, it lies in what is known as a rain cloud and is semi-arid in nature, temperature is usually in the 20s! However we head back into the mountains tomorrow and onto Vancouver, where we have 5 days to rest and recooperate before heading off again.
