We left Urbino and traveled west through beautiful mountains, which I later found out were the eastern Casentino, an area we were shown by Luca years later. This is stunning country with wonderful views, and the only drawback was the persistent fog we seemed never to lose along our way. As we were passing right by the town of Anghiari, we decided to stop at our favorite pizza place in the center of town. The only problem was this time it was closed for the month of January, so we made the trip for nothing. Anghiari is a lovely town, and we did get to stroll around, but the extremely mediocre pizza we wound up having was a big disappointment. My advice that was given during the video we took of trying to find the pizzeria was to always call ahead. So continuing to the destination for the day of Cortona, a town I always wanted to visit. The road led around and round until we arrived at a hill top place above the town. It was a very nice hotel, and we had a room with extraordinary view, except that once again, the heavy fog obscured what would have been an amazing view; also we were actually above the clouds which also were quite thick. We drove back to the town to get to see what we could, and went inside a church and museum before heading back up the hill. As we rode we passed right by the house belonging to Frances Mayer, who wrote the popular book, Under the Tuscan Sun. We met the hotel owner who told us that townspeople were very upset about her book, which just brought gawkers to their lovely, peaceful town. Dinner was right in the restaurant of the hotel, as I knew we wouldn't want to drive or walk down to the town center at night. There were weren't too many people there and we were treated to excellent service and excellent food. The owner even brought out some boar meat on a plate, which we had never had; it tasted like some beef stew, and was not to our liking. Nonetheless, the food we did have was very tasty, satisfying.
