Having received impeccable directions indicating how to get to our next destination of Spoleto, we found the correct road and then drove a narrow, steep road, through moderately dense fog to Spoleto, where I was eager to see the town a bit, but especially to view the famous, well preserved Roman Aqueduct. Somehow we did arrive safely, just driving slowly, I suppose, stopping in centro for a quick look, and then successfully finding the aqueduct and taking some photos of it. Then on to Spello, another beautiful hill town with narrow, winding streets, lovely piazza, and best of all, very few tourists. I can barely distinguish the two towns in my mind, so similar were they to me, but the same activities occurred, strolling the town, having a great lunch and spending the rest of the day trying to find an equally charming place for dinner. I just love the feeling of returning to our room, usually with stunning Umbrian views, resting for a while in the late afternoon, and then walking slowly through dark, streets hundreds of years old, to a charming restaurant, family owned, with barely any people inside, and having delicious Italian food with some local wine. That is my idea of paradise.
