The advertised trip time was 6 hours. We had read from more reputable sources that it was 8 hours. Guess which one it ended up being.

The boat was actually just a glorified fishing boat, we had seen it beforehand so it wasn't a surprise, neither of us were looking forward to it at all but the knowledge that this is our final journey pulled us through. We set off slightly before 9. Initially we had to sit in the back on a wooden bench but after a while we moved out to the front of the boat where you could sit/lie on the floor in the sun. Apart from one amazing area that we went through it was largely boring sea. I read about peadophile killers and did little else.

We arrived in Coron Town on Busuanga Island at 4pm. This is our final destination, we are here for 16 days now before flying back to Manila for the day and then to Bangkok. The plan right now is to find a hotel then spend tomorrow looking for somewhere we can rent for 2 weeks with atleast a kitchenette.

There was no trikes vying for our service we walked the road until we managed to flag one and ask him to drop us in town. He dropped us next to the market and we enquired about rooms. We got chatting to an American Filipino who told us that nowhere in Coron has hot showers - its been 8 days - and to follow his woman to his hotel. The hotel is complete shite, it's on the seafront but everything else about it is just dreadful, the price is okish so we just take it and we can move tomorrow.

There's a tendency to trust people who speak fluent English, it's a flaw I suspect many travellers have no matter how seasoned. The American guy basically totally bullshitted us about his hotel and the showers. At that point I didn't care I was just so hungry. We walked across the sea to a bar at a dive resort which is pretty damn nice. We had a drink, went to the cash machine (he first cash machine we've seen in over a week), returned to the bar and I once again had two teas, burrito and pizza. When will I learn, just because I hadn't eaten anything all day I think I can eat everything in one. We spent ages in the bar on the internet and then I felt dreadful for the remainder of the night.

Coron isn't very nice, or atleast the town isn't, it's back to the standard provincial type we have seen so often. The seafront is blocked out by houses, hotels all built in the water. Much discussion was had about what happens now and how we suspect that finding a rental place that's suitable maybe unlikely, we made some initial enquiries but it doesn't look good. The whole idea was to do what we need here then move somewhere nice with a beach and relax out the remaining days. I'll be honest I'm a bit gutted about it, we have even discussed returning to El Nido but we have booked our flight out from Busuanga so it would be inpractical.

The room/hotel is ridiculous. You have to ask them to turn the water on and they turn it off all the time. They didn't have two towels. What (empty) hotel doesn't provide two towels. The only plus is I can leech the internet from across the water at the other hotel. Tomorrow will most likely be a dead day where we try to figure out what we do and get our bearings a bit.
