We set off for a Fall trip and thought we might go to Newfoundland. When we were in Nova Scotia in 2009 people there recommended going to Newfoundland. However, once we left home we figured it was farther than we really wanted to go and by the time we got there, many campgrounds would be closing. It had been a busy summer and we hadn't done any planning; we just got ready and headed out.
Our first night was at Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. It was pretty hot but we liked staying there. We should not have gone this time. First, it was hot at night and hard to sleep. Second, in the early morning Mary Ann was in the bathroom and got stung by a scorpion on the heel. She thought it had been a bee since they warned us about aggressive bees, but when I went in to get the stuff she left after running to the van, I saw the scorpion.
The sting caused an allergic reaction so Mary Ann took Benedryl (sp?) while I notified the camp host who notified the ranger who notified the paramedics. The ranger had no medical qualifications and the paramedics had to come from far away. By the time they arrived, Mary Ann was feeling well enough that we could drive ourselves to the ER in Mesquite. There they gave her some medications and sent us on our way. Later in the day the symptoms returned so we visited the ER in Beaver Utah. They were more competent and got her the medications she really needed.
We eventually got to our friend, Becca's, place in Paris Idaho. There we rested for several days which we would have done anyway, and Mary Ann recovered.
From there we went to the Tetons for a few days. Since we have been there often, there is not much new to write about. My plan for this blog is to write less and have more photos.
