The flight was long but uneventful and after going into a 20 minute holding pattern we eventually descended through the grey skies of west London and landed right on time just before 07:30 local time.

We passed through immigration, collected our baggage for one last time and then met Katie's Mum and brother James in the Arrivals area.

Home sweet home ?!

It was great to see some friendly faces after such a long time away from home and we tried to chat away to them even if we were both exhausted after not sleeping well on the plane.

James drove us back to his house in Barnes where we were delighted to take our backpacks off for the very last time and to be able to go downstairs for some granary bread, marmite and Yop!

TREMENDOUS ;)

Since then we've been catching up with Pam & James, unpacking, doing washing (FOR FREE!) and trying to get organised for the days and weeks ahead.

Hopefully those of you in our address book will have received my note yesterday, but just in case, we both wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you who have made the time to check out the blog since we left, to see where we were and what we were doing.

Keeping the blog updated with text and photos from our 240+ days away really has been a mammoth undertaking for me, but also a real accomplishment, something we can hopefully look back on for the rest of our lives.

I really hope that you've enjoyed following our progress as we've backpacked through South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America.

We've had an incredible journey, an absolutely amazing experience and any of you that have made the effort to contact us while we've been away have really contributed to us keeping a smile on our faces, so thank you very much.

I've had over 12,500 hits on this blog since we left London in September, so hopefully our fellow travellers will continue to find our entries useful if you're planning similar journeys.

If anyone wishes to contact me with any questions about our travels, please do so at alistair_fey@hotmail.com and I'll do my best to help. (please just note the underscore between my first and family names)

Now for the very last time...

lots of love,

Al & Katie xx
