Today was our first full day on the island, so after a decent breakfast including lots of fruit (and toast!) we decided to walk to another recommended beach by the name of Dios Rios, or Two Rivers.

This imaginative title is bestowed on this particular beach because it's bookended by, erm.. two rivers. I know, who would have thought it?

We were told that the best way to reach Dios Rios was via a walking trail through the woods which left from the north part of town. We found the trail head and off we set...

We hoped that it would be a fairly easy walk because we were wearing our flip-flops, which aren't exactly suited for difficult terrain!

We knew that the trail was 2-3 hours long, but we didn't know what sort of shape it was in.

It turned out to be quite a challenging walk in flip-flops!

We climbed up and over the centre of the island, sensibly ignoring a side trail which went all the way up to the rock which looks like a parrot's beak, but it was still a loooooong and occasionally slippery trail.

We took a signed shortcut which was rather treacherous, but it definitely shaved off some time so we were pretty happy.

We made it to Dios Rios in about 1hr 45m, our long legs coming in handy again for some speed walking!

Our first impressions were great; it was another nice long beach but not as wide as Lopez Mendes where we were yesterday.

Even better, there was hardly anyone else there again. Result!

I guess that shouldn't have been very surprising really considering the long walk to it, but we thought it was worth it.

Unfortunately the camera was throwing a bit of a fit today and refused to work, I think it got a bit of salt water splashed on it yesterday, so we bought a disposable camera before leaving town.

When we found a nice spot we put down the towels and lay in the sun for a while.

An hour or so later we were soon reaching for our packed lunch, with good old Emile the Eskie doing a sterling job once again of keeping our water, sarnies, crisps and fruit cool in the blazing sun.

After lunch we went for a bit of a paddle, then I walked down to investigate the two rivers before the sun started to plummet and it was time to head back again.

We'd been nattering the whole way to the beach and the long walk had gone quickly, so we decided to try the same again on the way back.

I guess it's pretty cool that we still have plenty to say to each other after spending every minute of the last 9 months in each other's pockets and it was a fun walk back. So well done us! ;)

When we got back to our pousada we walked back to the room, showered all the sun cream and sand of us, read for a while and then headed out into town for dinner.

Tonight we decided to go to a proper restaurant and we'd seen a few places yesterday offering "fish with passion fruit sauce", which sounded lushorama.

Sure enough it proved to be bloody tasty, with sides of mash and rice which we devoured with a nice black beer.

Al dinner

We walked home thoroughly satisfied after a really fun day and looked forward to more of the same tomorrow!

Lots of love,

Al & Katie xx
