We arrived back in Santo Domingo tired and relieved to be safe and sound. Both AK and SJ were still feeling a little delicate so we decided to spend the next few days just chilling. We had the $5 dinner each evening and scrambled eggs on toast for lunch. We caught up on some blog and AK did lots of research for south America and practised his Spanish. SJ watched a few chick flicks and we both chatted to the various backpackers that came to the hostel. Other than that we didn't do a great deal!
On the last day Manfred took us to a street market where they sold lots of fresh fruit and veg and home made pies and breads. It was cheap so we bought fruit and potato cake bread for the plane ride to Lima, Peru later that day. We also tried some cane sugar juice which is basically just sugar cane squeezed through a machine. The juice is really not that good as it is just very sweet and sickly but Manfred said that the kids love it. We are not sure how good it is for young teeth!
So it was eventually time to leave for the airport. SJ was, as usual, getting nervous. Manfred and his son took us in his car after we said a sad fair well to Maylinge. We were sad to leave as we really liked the little family at the Costa Rica Love Hostel.
