We arrived in Phoenix safe and sound. Initial impressions were that it looked a little rough but we are close to the city so that might be why. Our hotel is again basic and clean but there is no iron or fridge. The staff are nice.

We dumped our bags and went straight into downtown Phoenix. There are a few baby sky scrapers. There are not many shops but we were not sure where we were so we could have been in the business area. We stopped at Subway for lunch and then went for a walk. We had a little moment of worry when we thought a dodgy looking guy was following us and muttered something as he walked past but we could have been mistaken, he looked a few sandwiches short of a picnic or could have been high!

We stumbled across a gathering of people so went over to have a look and then realised it was a demonstration against new proposed laws that allow the police in Arizona to stop and search people if they 'suspect' people to be illegal immigrants. We decided to stay and see what happened. There were lots of speakers in English and Spanish and music and dancing. I think the noise attracted all the misfits because there were some interesting people and one guy spent the whole time having conversations with an imaginary person! We decided to tag along to the back of the March but we had to leave them after a bit. There were loads of police and the roads were cut off. When we got back to the hotel we seen on the news that loads of people got arrested.

We had tea in a real American style BBQ place called Bill Johnsons Big Apple. AK had a beast of a meal with chicken, ribs, beef and jacket potato. It doesn't sound much but the portions are huge. He was like man v food and on this occasion man won! The manager came over to talk to us and ask where we are from, she was really nice.

There is not much else to report from Phoenix as it was pretty quiet. We are not sure it is one of our favourite places so far but SJ was happy because it's where Bella Swan is from!

We are on our way to Sedona, AZ as the manager of the restaurant last night said its a really peaceful place to go. We stopped off at a place called Papago park. There is a huge rock with a hole in the middle - its called hole in the rock. We decided to climb up it and down it. SJ was trying really hard to remember her A level geology to work out what the rock was but we might have to consult the Oracle that is Ste Hunter to confirm!

We are right at this minute driving through beautiful mountainous desert with lots of cacti and strange looking plants. The views are breathtaking and AK and SJ think that this is indeed the life :)
