After a long weekend of drinking, partying and not much sleep AK and SJ needed a little chill time. So after we packed up our camping gear we left Coachella and headed to the nearest McDonalds to use the free WiFi. We opened up the map and picked a little Californian town called Blythe in the middle of the desert.
SJ also called her mum to say happy birthday. It's hard being away on days like birthdays. Happy birthday mum/Sheil xx
So we booked a motel and made our way along interstate 10 to Blythe. AK did the driving and SJ slept most of the way!
The motel was basic but clean and the staff were lovely. We got showers and SJ used her beloved straightening irons and we went out for tea. We chose a steak place called Sizzler and the food was lovely with lots of fresh salad and veggies. The locals were whispering and looking over at us but then they don't see many tourists.
We had a great sleep and it was nice not waking up in a sauna. We headed out to a lagoon along the Colorado river as recommended by the hotel staff and after getting lost we found it. It's really nice and the locals go there to walk their dogs or launch boats.we spent the day there. AK dived right in as soon as we got there but SJ was more cautious as there were plants and reeds which freak her out.
AK had a great idea to have a BBQ for tea at the lagoon - well it's what us Brits do, a little bit of sun and we head to the Asda to stock up on charcoal, burgers and beer! So we did just that and headed to the local equivalent to Asda and got our BBQ stuff.
AK got the BBQ going pretty quick and we had a lovely tea sat at the picknick bench in the sun. Just as we were finishing our sausages a guy in a wheelchair came over walking his dog, a little Boston terrier called Cash.
While SJ was making a fuss of Cash his owner started to talk to us and we found out his name is Tex and he has had an interesting life. He was in the Marines, worked down mines setting explosives and as a pipe fitter. He had three daughters one of which had 12 kids! He was really nice and was telling us that he talked to and gave food and drink to the local homeless people. He also told us about his homeless friend John Whitt who was mugged and brutally murdered by some scum bag last September. Then he told us it happened 'just there on that picnic table' turns out the poor fella was stabbed to death on the table we had just had tea on! It was sad and a little bit unnerving!
We decided to give away our remaining BBQ food and some beer to a homeless man in the park in memory of John, you never know what life throws at you and anyone can find themselves homeless one day.
So we are on our way to Phoenix in Arizona, it's going to be hot again.
I forgot to say, AK got a 'hey baby' from a camp gay guy driving past in a car! It's that beard, getting him all kinds of attention! SJ has not stopped winding him up about it!

Looks awesome so far guys.. Keep the updates coming!! Hey baby hahaha!
That BBQ looks delicious! By the way, I'm 30 years old and I've never been to a Sizzler. How un-American of me! Cheers!
