So we arrived in Tennessee on Friday 13th and SJ was a bit shaken with the flight from Atlanta to Asheville. It was a tiny plane and was rocking all over the place! SJ really thought the day/date was living up to its name!

Lisa met us at the airport and it was really nice to see her. She hasn't changed much.

The drive to Johnson city was really nice, all green with rolling fields and trees and cows and stuff. The interstate roads are huge. SJ hated all the road kill (there is a lot!) but the pace of driving is quite chilled, not at all like the m6 at 8.30 on a Monday morning!

The first stop in Johnson city was the hotel (which was lovely and has huge beds and free hot cookies!). We then went for food in Chedders.

Next stop Milligan College and Lisa's place. We met Dew and Marshal and they are boss! Dew is a sweetie and very friendly and Marshal is very handsome. It was only after we left that we realised we didn't get pictures of them :(

Milligan College is amazing and very clean and modern. I can understand why the students want to study there and have such a good time, the facilities are great. Lisa has a great quality of life there and everyone seems to love her.

In the evening we went for beer in Scmucks, Johnson City old town. We met Lisa's friends and colleagues who were all really nice & were funny having banter with each other. The whole group consisted of, Americans, scousers, a Glaswegian, a Brazilian and Kenyan guys which all made for an interesting and fun night getting a little bit tipsy!

Lisa had to work on Saturday so we just explored the shops in Johnson City and tried at driving an automatic on the wrong side of the road! It wasn't too bad and we figured it out. We had Taco Bell and SJ wasn't impressed, especially when Lisa told us that the grade of meat is less than that used for dog food :(((

In the evening we went to the cinema to watch American Reunion. It was just like visiting the cinema in the UK apart from the popcorn (cheese flavour or bring your own bucket and they fill it with popcorn and pour melted butter over it urrgghh) and an armed police man turned up and hung around all evening. The film was really funny.

On Sunday we visited the Bay mountain animal park. They had reptiles, deer, birds of prey, wolves, otters. Lots of the animals were rescue cases which made SJ happy. AK sported the Brit Abroad look (top off, pale skin on show) and we did get a few odd looks but how else do you get a tan?!?

We watched the Milligan men's soccer team play the ETSU men's soccer team and met more great people who work with Lisa or play on her soccer teams. Milligan won 3-1, well done Milligan!

We ate pizza for lunch and Japanese food for dinner. The food is amazing! Whatever you have is so tasty, it must be loaded with bad stuff to taste so good!

Monday started with a little hike up a mountain! AK and Lisa breezed up the mountain but SJ found it tough. It was worth it though as the views from the top were amazing. AK found a large stick and felt at one with the mountain. He stripped to his (very tight) underpants and stood at the edge of the mountain admiring his kingdom (see pictures)

SJ nearly stepped on a snake hiking up the second mountain and AK went into Steve Erwin mode and chased after it, stick in hand. He didn't catch it but he was very impressed to see a wild snake.

AK and SJ spent the afternoon sunbathing as the weather was really good. We set up the iPhone to play Bob Marley and we had the pool to ourselves. We went to a local barbecue shack for dinner and had the most amazing BBQ pulled pork, hot corn bread and a choice of 6/7 BBQ sauces. It was the best BBQ food we have ever tasted, beats a few sausages and burgers thrown on a disposable BBQ from Asda!

We have not done much today (Tuesday) as we had to pack our backpacks (it's getting easier) and Lisa drove us to Knoxville to our dodgy ill motel. We are really sad to be leaving Lisa and Johnson city and the lovely people we have met.

We are settled into our motel, door chained and locked and are not looking forward to a day of traveling tomorrow but the West coast awaits us with sun, sea and good times so we just have to get on with it.

AK & SJ are signing off for now......speak to you all soon. Love, hugs and kisses x
