ROTORUA!! WHERE THE FUN IS!
So we left Auckland yesterday morning, and began our drive to Rotorua. And can I say, roadtrips with Chopz are wickedfun. We laugh, we sing, we have a blast. Even if he gets us lost all the time, (an HOUR out into bumblefuck nowhere- -however nowhere includes beaches...) but at least he's smart enough to ask for directions. I know, right!? So we headed off, and had a few stops along the way. We had to stop at a giant L&P bottle in Paeroa and spent some time at the beach in Whangamata. Then lunch in a CUTE AND PRECIOUS little gold mining town called Waihi where I got my first taste of Kumara chips..... Gawd. They need to stop kicking our asses at food. Because DAMN.
Oh. Then, of course, the moment everyone didn't know that they were waiting for. Little town called Te Puke, the self proclaimed "Kiwifruit Capital". Complete with a billion roadsigns depicting kiwifruit characters, even kiwi shaped tiles in the sidewalks. We stopped for some Hokey Pokey because I'm gonna get my fill before I leave. And then.... YUP. GINORMOUS KIWIFRUIT SLICE. Side of the road. Major attraction. Keeping my EpiPen handy and in a state of cat-like readiness, we of course, stopped at this taunting monstrocity to take photos so that all of you jerks can laugh at my expense. So enjoy. Laugh it up, chuckles.
Although Rotorua smells like a fart, (which was what the pig was for.. i mean PEG), it's a gorgeous thermal city with lots of volcanic activity, geyers and steamy things. It's not exactly warm here either, so at least I don't have to brag about the sunshine anymore to all of you snowed in Canadians. Yeah. I heard the weather was delightful there. *snicker* FABULOUS salmon dinner, a great sauvignon blanc called Tohu. (These bastards ferment grapes pretty good too. And they keep them to themselves. You don't find many imported wines down here, just NZ wines. Hence why the NZ wines sections in our liquor stores are so small. They are selfish.), and Chopz got a rhubarb pie... and i informed him that when he makes his way to my side of the world, he needs to say nice things to my momma so she'll make him a kuchen- -he said he'll exchange for chocolate. :-)
Early to bed. So that the fun can begin.... Please refer to the next day's blog, as it contains adventure and fun that will make you jealous.
